Do you feel like going on the ultimate road trip with a friend, meeting tonnes of new people and having loads of fun? This might be the once in a lifetime opportunity for you to do just that! Make this a summer you'll truly never forget (unlike all those other unforgetable summers you can hardly remember anymore!)
On the 14th July 2006 the worlds most keen hitch-hikers will asemble in Faro, Portugal to take part in the ultimate hitch-hiking race. You too can take part in the race at no cost whatsoever. Our destination: Riga, the capital of Latvia. All you need to take part is a partner and a fully operational thumb. The whole race will take part in EU member state countries. The route you take is entirely up to you, but the recommended route is:
Portugal > Spain > France > Germany > Poland > Lithuania > Latvia

Anyone can race. Even a 90 year old in a wheel-chair on acid with a grudge against ice-cream eating hamsters can race.

No hitch-hiking experience required.
- Winning is a very unimportant part of this race. The important part is fun!
- Race starts from Faro on the south cost of Portugal and ends in Riga, Latvia.
- The quickest route is about 4250Km.
- We recommend bringing a lightweight 2-man tent along with you. This means that you can sleep at any point along the way. Traveling into towns and cities to find a hostel could also mean losing valuable time.
- Participants from the E.U. will be able to enter the 3 new E.U. member states (Poland, Lithuania and Latvia) with a just a passport.
- The old E.U. member states do not have border checks, but we recommend that all participants carry a passport at all times as it is the law in some countries to carry I.D. at all times.
- Poland, Lithuania and Latvia do not have the euro so you will need to change some money in advance for these countries if you want to buy things on the road (rest stations) as money changing agencies rarely set up at the side of the road!

Thumb optional, people with thumb dysfunctions may also participate. Please note that there is always a certain degree of risk involved in hitch-hiking. Entry in this race is entirely at the participants own risk. The organisers will be held neither accountable nor responsible for any damages or injuries which may occur during the race or at any other time. Just be sensible and you'll be grand. It is up to the participants to ensure they have all the neccesary documentation for crossing all the borders they need.
